The Liverpool River Of Light Trail

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

Monday 5th April marks the end of the 2021 River Of Light Trail in Liverpool, After what has been a crazy year with Lockdown's here there and everywhere It was a welcome sight and allowed people to walk along the 2km stretch of lights all started off by a special performance to outline what a year of Lockdown has had on the people of Liverpool.

For 14 Nights from the 23rd March to the 5th April the trail open during the day but the lights being switched on at night. Myself and and the family took a wander over on a bitterly cold Friday evening, leaving our home on the Wirral we made our way over on the train to start the trail at the first light display which was a beautiful rainbow. As you can see from the picture at the bottom it was very busy but distancing was not an issue and there were plenty of security on hand to ensure everyone was walking the correct way.

The rainbow itself was by far the most popular attraction as everyone wanted there picture taken underneath which was managed by a one in one out policy and the security seemed to have it well practiced.

After a few minutes and a few pictures we made our way along the Albert Dock which was very busy and distancing was nigh on impossible and one security placed in the most silly place who just seemed to get in the way but nearly everyone used there initiative and we got through with no hiccups.

That interesting walk through the docks brought us to the second set of lights which as you can see below were absolutely gorgeous and just as popular with everyone. Social distancing was easy enough with everyone pretty much doing there own thing and keeping away from eachother and being like the sheep we are when groups of people started to move everyone seemed to follow which was quite funny to watch.

We then made our way out of the Albert Dock and towards Liverpool One where another set of lights were placed and this is where we had to cut out evening short as my 5 year old son was very cold and he decided he didn't want to walk anymore so we decided to head towards the station after being out for nearly 2 hours and making it to 3 parts of the trail overall it was good and the kids loved it and an excellent job by Liverpool City Council and well publicised by VisitLiverpool.
